Urban Decay Serves up Vegan Palette

Did you know  that Carmine (also called Crimson Lake, Cochineal, Natural Red 4, C.I. 75470, or E120), which is found in human food, pet food, baby products and cosmetics, is made of the ground bodies of a females insect that feeds on cacti? How awesome is that?

Not very.

First of all, about 70,000 beetles must be killed to produce one pound of colour.

Secondly, if you have allergies are sensitivities to insects and their bites, as I am, you may want to either run like the wind or make a mountain of all the carmine containing products in your house, curse them all to hell for making you itchy and swollen and oozy and throw them in a bonfire OR at least check out Urban Decay’s Vegan Palette and many other fantastically animal and insect free products.

“Although we are a cruelty-free company, and not a vegan company, we love vegans and wanted to make your shopping experience easier! Be on the lookout for Marley’s purple paw, which certifies that the product is vegan”
