I’m a vegetarian married to an omnivore. And he hunts. Gross. To be fair, I did not convert to vegetarianism until we had already been married for five years. But I know he will never convert. He does, however, eat whatever I cook, and when he cooks, he makes me a substitute meat product. So we eat plenty of vegetarian meals as a family. That’s about the best that I can hope for, I guess. He’s an amazing husband and father, but he is a meat-eater. He supports my choice, and I respect his decision (though I don’t like it one bit).
Yes, I have tried most of the dating sites above and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE http://www.PlanetEarthSingles.com. They have a huge database of veggie and vegan members (I think the largest of all you mention above) and there are some great features on the site like their mutual matching, compatibility test and sexual IQ.

Doesn’t it drive you nuts the way people (one’s non-vegan friends) obsess about how, as a vegan, you’re getting your protein? I’ve found that the only people who actually know how much protein you need are veg*ns. And it’s very, very hard not to get enough protein, even as a vegan (assuming you eat enough calories and they’re not just from junk food) and very, very easy as a meat eater to get way too much. The average American eats more than twice as much protein as they need, which is at least as bad for you as not enough. And yet do we go around asking people if that steak’s not maybe pushing their daily protein intake over the edge? It’s all I can do sometimes to remain civil and not just spit “Quit worrying about MY health. YOU’re the one’s who’s going to die of a heart attack!” or kidney failure or colon cancer…

This made me laugh!
Countless numbers of meat eaters have killed their babies through not caring for their child’s basic food and health needs. But you never read “meat eaters kill baby!” in the papers. Why? Because that would give omni’s a bad name. But the second some idiot that happens to be vegan does something wrong, you can bet your life that it’ll be front page news. “Cause of death: veganism”. no. cause of death: stupidity.

I would love to make the veggie pate to take to a gathering this weekend and I have no idea how to serve it. I’ve never eaten pate in my life so am pate-clueless. Would I serve it warm or cold? With crackers? Garnished? with what?
I am excited to try it!
Thanks!
I’ve bought the ingredients and am going to make it this weekend! I have one more question about the prep…
If I were to make it a day in advance, would it be better to prepare it, bake it, refrigerate it overnight and serve it the next day? OR Prepare it, not bake it, refrigerate it overnight and then bake it the next day before I serve it?
OR
Is it really just best if I can make the time to make it all on the day of?
Karli,
I’m so sorry I didn’t get back to you quicker. My comment notification is buggy. I think baking it then refrigerating overnight gives it a nice firmness.
Let me know how yours turned out!

Humans are omnivores, even if you feed a cow meat, by its DNA, it will be an omnivore.
January 5, 2012 at 3:08 am
Vegans say we have no natural adaptions to eat meat, but do we have special adaptations to graze and get fruits from trees? No,we use tractors and tools to get our veggies/fruits out of the wild.We have a special adaptation most animals do not have:high intelligence. And you say we marinate meat with veggies to make it taste like veggies, no, we marinate it to give it flavor because we have intelligence & food is no longer just survival, taste and formulas matter,&,humans used to eat raw meat and dirty fruit, but we evolved so much to our tool filled enviroment that we now can only eat cooked meat since we invented fire,& cleaned and harvested veggies since we made the hoe and used work animalslong ago. And and try to rip a potato out of the ground, & eat it, right there & then. Not very good, is it? Whats that? Why of course you got sick from the dirt and germs. But we have these things called tools & intelligence, & from evolution to make things our bodies are not adapted to bearable. But evolution forgot you, it seems. “Kill with your fangs”. Graze and eat from trees with your super long neck, toe fingers, monkey tail, and 5 stomaches, dumbass. Oh, and another animal that eats like people? The otter. I see no fangs, claws, or crushing strenth on those. But they are intelligent, and use rocks to crack open clams. You can’t say it is not natural for otters to eat clams.
I would respond to your questions but it’s clear you’re not looking for information, and that you’re only looking for an argument.
But I will say that unfounded argument and name-calling ( it’s spelled dumb-ass by the way) probably isn’t the best example of this evolution and intelligence that you speak of.
P.S.
If you’re ever starving in the bush, without sight of a grocery store, there is more than just potatoes eat. Carrots are great right out of the ground. So are tomatoes, peppers, peas, cucumber and most other vegetables – not to mention almost every fruit on earth.

What a nice collection of recipe ideas and not just for Valentines! Beautiful presentation, love the pictures. Highly recommend, I’ve made most of them and they all turned out tasty.
Hi Jen,
I have been making this recipe and skipping the sauteeing and it is still delicious! I double the recipe and all of us have enough vegepate for our sandwiches for the week! Thank you!
I’ve never tried it personally, but I know you can purchase frozen ones so I can’t see why not!
If you try it, let me know how it was after freezing and baking!
Glad you enjoyed you. 🙂
I don’t think that most of the breakfast cereals listed here are actually vegan. Most of them are fortified with animal derived vitamin D. If you haven’t checked the vitamin/mineral sources of the foods you’re eating/posting, you should.
Thanks Andrea,
It’s true, D2 is made from yeast or other plants and is generally used to fortify milk and other food products, but Vitamin D3, usually derived from fish oil or sheep’s lanolin, is the exact form of vitamin D found in the body – the type the sun induces our bodies to make and is apparently therefore better absorbed. I’m really not sure which of the two is most often it is used in mainstream food products. As I wrote in this post, it was Peta.org that published that list, but I’m sure they would appreciate it if you pointed that out to them and/or asked them to clarify. Also, if you have a tip for our readers as to how to differentiate on labels which of the vitamin Ds products are fortified with, I’m sure they would appreciate it too! 🙂
Hi Jane! For this recipe I use a powdered egg replacer. They have suggestions of altered measurements depending on if you
are going for the consistency of whole egg, egg white or egg yolk.
I’m making this for the first time for thanksgiving. I be bought a Hubbard squash that weighs about 6-7 lbs ( 14” long x 23” around girth in centre , then tapering at either end ). Will one recipe of stuffing be sufficient or should I double the recipe?
Annabelle, I’m so sorry I didn’t answer this sooner.
I’m just seeing it now, and happen to have one in the oven as I write this.
I am using a bigger squash this time (also about 6.5 pounds) and the
stuffing was enough to fill half of it.
So yes, I would make 1 1/2-2 times the recipe if it’s still on the menu 😉

Thanks James! I love hearing when other people try out the recipes. I checked out your site and enjoyed your vegetarian sushi post very much!! Especially your idea of the roasted eggplant. Can’t wait to try it. Jennifer-June recently posted…Gam Chowder
6.5 lbs? I just weighed mine and it is like 21 lbs. about 18″ long by 36 ” around. First time I bought one and it seems MUCH bigger than what you cooked.. Perhaps I should make a boat instead of a stuffed “turkey” like I was planning. Thoughts?
I vote for the squash boat! Especially if that’s a real “turkey” you’re talking about. If not…..
I’m intrigued and wondering what you might make your “turkey” out of.
Please share! Jennifer-June recently posted…Gam Chowder
It turned out well, little bit too sweet for me. I will try with lower amount of sugar in the filling. Other than that not very different from the Italian non vegan version. Yummy!

November 29, 2011 at 1:48 amI would love to make the veggie pate to take to a gathering this weekend and I have no idea how to serve it. I’ve never eaten pate in my life so am pate-clueless. Would I serve it warm or cold? With crackers? Garnished? with what?
I am excited to try it!
Jennifer-June
November 29, 2011 at 2:46 pmHey Karli,
serve it cool or room temperature (so it spreads easily) with baguette, bread or crackers.
It’s super tasty!

December 2, 2011 at 1:41 amThanks!
Clearly, I want to do it justice!
Thanks again!
Jennifer-June
December 13, 2011 at 3:48 amKarli,
I’m so sorry I didn’t get back to you quicker. My comment notification is buggy. I think baking it then refrigerating overnight gives it a nice firmness.
Let me know how yours turned out!

Humans are omnivores, even if you feed a cow meat, by its DNA, it will be an omnivore.
January 5, 2012 at 3:08 amVegans say we have no natural adaptions to eat meat, but do we have special adaptations to graze and get fruits from trees?

January 5, 2012 at 1:43 pmI would respond to your questions but it’s clear you’re not looking for information, and that you’re only looking for an argument.

August 12, 2017 at 1:06 amI don’t think that most of the breakfast cereals listed here are actually vegan. Most of them are fortified with animal derived vitamin D. If you haven’t checked the vitamin/mineral sources of the foods you’re eating/posting, you should.
Jennifer-June
September 2, 2017 at 6:29 pmThanks Andrea,
It’s true, D2 is made from yeast or other plants and is generally used to fortify milk and other food products, but Vitamin D3, usually derived from fish oil or sheep’s lanolin, is the exact form of vitamin D found in the body – the type the sun induces our bodies to make and is apparently therefore better absorbed. 🙂

April 21, 2019 at 9:01 pmHey Jen – what do you use as a yolk replacer? I’d be tempted to aquafaba/chickpea flour it, but curious what you use.
Jennifer-June
June 2, 2019 at 10:15 pmHi Jane! For this recipe I use a powdered egg replacer. They have suggestions of altered measurements depending on if you
are going for the consistency of whole egg, egg white or egg yolk.

October 11, 2019 at 4:21 pmI’m making this for the first time for thanksgiving. I be bought a Hubbard squash that weighs about 6-7 lbs ( 14” long x 23” around girth in centre , then tapering at either end ). Will one recipe of stuffing be sufficient or should I double the recipe?
Jennifer-June
October 13, 2019 at 6:04 pmAnnabelle, I’m so sorry I didn’t answer this sooner.
Let me know how it turns out!

November 12, 2019 at 3:52 pm6.5 lbs? I just weighed mine and it is like 21 lbs. about 18″ long by 36 ” around. First time I bought one and it seems MUCH bigger than what you cooked.. Perhaps I should make a boat instead of a stuffed “turkey” like I was planning. Thoughts?

November 12, 2019 at 6:58 pmI vote for the squash boat! Especially if that’s a real “turkey” you’re talking about. If not…..
