  1. 1 cup water
  2. 1 cup maple syrup or sugar
  3. 12-oz bag fresh or frozen cranberries (3 cups)
  4. 2 apples, peeled, cored and quartered
  5. 1 Stick of cinnamon
  6. 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated lemon zest
  1. Bring water and syrup or sugar and cinnamon stick to a boil, stirring until syrup is dissolved.
  2. Add cranberries and simmer, stirring occasionally, until berries just pop, 10 to 12 minutes. Stir in zest, then cool.
